The
Tanita KD-160 offers all the same features of the Tanita
1140 except at a lower cost. Weighing capacity up to 1000 grams
or 35 ounces in increments as small as 1 gram / 0.05
ounces. The KD-160 has a slightly smaller footprint verses the
Tanita 1140. While the Tanita 1140 is dark gray in color the KD-160
is jet black. Either scale operators on on batteries which
are included, along with a large clear plastic bowl. The scale can
be used with the bowl or without.

Note:
The Tanita KD-160 features 1000 grams
or 35 ounces weighing capacity
which means the most you should ever have on the weighing platform
at anytime is 1000 grams
/ 35 ounces.
The smallest increment the scale can every display is 1 gram / (0.05
ounces). The display will ALWAYS BE IN WHOLE
GRAM increments. You will never see 0.1 g or 0.5 g with
the Tanita KD-160.
The KD-160 is
a dual range scale. This means when weighing item(s) on the
weighing platform from 0 to 500 grams the LCD will increment from
0 to 1 g, 2 g, 3 g, ... 499 g, 500 g. When the weight on the
platform exceed 500 grams (501 - 1000g) the LCD will increment in
2 gram intervals automatically. You have no control of this
since the manufacturer has programmed the scale to operate in 2
gram intervals when anything is placed on the platform over 500
gram. Therefore, the display will show 502 g, 504 g, 506,
up to 996 g, 998 g, 1000 grams.
The same scenario
goes when you are weighing in the ounce mode. If the item
on the weighing platform is greater than 16 ounces the display will
increment in 0.1 oz divisions.
When weighing
in the avoirdupois mode the KD-160 weighs ounces only.
It DOES NOT weigh in pounds. For example, a food co-op
weigh 24-ounce bags of rice using the Tanita KD-160 would see the
display as 24.0 ounces and never 1.5 pounds. (16
ounces = 1 pound)
