SELECTABLE
CALIBRATION FEATURE
Calibration is a very important
to the accuracy of any balance. Just as a musician must
have one true tone to tune his instrument, a balance needs
a true weight to tune itself. Calibration is done by
giving a base point (ZERO)
and establishing what is the full capacity (SPAN)
weight. Since SPAN
is normally the balance's maximum capacity, the balance now
has two precise extreme points: zero and full scale.
The balance can now accurately calculate all amounts in between
the base point (ZERO)
and full capacity (SPAN.)
A&D balances offer a selectable
calibration feature for those people wishing not to calibrate
the balance at the full designed weighing capacity.
Calibrating a balance closer to the user's actual maximum
weighing capacity will offer a more accurate calibration.
For example, an individual may purchase the A&D
EK-6000i which offers the ability to weigh up to 6000g
with 0.1g readability. Instead the user only plans on
weighing up to 4800 grams. The EK-6000i offers the ability
to calibrate the scale at 4 programmed capacities - 3000g,
4000g, 5000g or 6000g. Therefore, to improve even greater
accurate the user would calibrate the EK-6000i with a 5000
gram calibration mass.
Balances are influenced by
changes in seasonal
temperature, humidity, barometric pressure and the gravitational
acceleration (the position of your
location related to magnetic north) for the location
at which the precision weighing instrument is being used.
It is necessary to calibrate the balance when it is being
installed for the first time and after any changes of locations.
It is also recommended that a balance be calibrated regularly
in order to obtain the most precision. Most GLP/GMP
and Quality Assurance Directives for a ISO
manufacturing environment require in their procedure a daily
calibration. Also, in critical weighing applications
such as formulation of inks, paints and adhesive a daily calibration
is a must.
Precision Weighing Balances
highly recommends you consider purchasing the calibration
mass at the same time you place your order for your balance.
It will only be a matter of time before you are calling for
the calibration mass to be delivered "yesterday".
The calibration mass will also enable you to perform all calibrations
within your organization and eliminate in most situations
the additional expense of calling a calibration service company
in.
A&D
designed the GF, GR, HR, GX,
HF, HFG, HP,
EKi - Series with the user in mind
making full digital calibration a cinch. You can also
change the calibration mass value for calibrating your A&D
balance to several programmed mass values to meet your weighing
needs. To enter the calibration mass value use the following
steps:
- Press and hold the "RE-ZERO"
key to enter the calibration mode.
- Release the "RE-ZERO"
key when the balance displays either "CAL or CAL 0".
- Press the "MODE"
key to change the calibration mass value
- Enter the calibration mass
value using the following keys: "MODE" key is
used to move digit to enter a number; "RE-ZERO"
key is used to change a number. Verify that there
is nothing on the weighing pan.
- Press the "RE-ZERO"
key. The balance measures the zero-point.

Quality Guaranteed by the Toughest
Standards of All… Our Own.
Designed for scale calibration, our solid cast iron test weights are sealed to ASTM classes 6 and 7 specifications; Class F tolerances are listed in the National Institute of Standards and Technology Handbook
105-1. All weights are traceable to NIST. To verify adherence to class F tolerances, OPTIONAL traceable certificates are available for an additonal $75.00.
Our cast iron weights undergo a special phosphatizing process in which the metal is thoroughly cleaned and mildly etched to allow exceptional finish adhesion. The weights are then coated with a layer of chip-resistant paint which conforms to NIST Handbook 105-1 standards. This two-step process ensures a long-lasting finish that greatly reduces the possibility of corrosion.

All
calibration weights are not returnable. Once your order
has been placed it CAN NOT be cancelled. Please carefully
consider this prior to placing your order. The reason for
this is these weights are custom manufactured and are certified
on the date they were made. In addition, if you touch the
calibration weight with your fingers the oil in your skin would
change the tolerance and we can not take this chance if the weight
was returned. |

Certificate of Calibration
The Certificate of Calibration report includes the nominal value and the
conventional mass correction value for each weight certified. It will
also list information on the standards the weights were compared against
including:
- Uncertainty value
- Identifying number
- NIST test number
- Date the standards were last calibrated
- NVLAP laboratory code
Recertification Service
Weight values can change over time due to scratches, fingerprints, wear
and even corrosion resulting from atmospheric contaminants. Regular
checks on the accuracy of mass standards ensures the accuracy of measurements.
The Sartorius mass metrology lab provides this service at a very competitive
price.
The current rates are listed below and subject to change. Typical
turn around time (excludes transit time) is 7-10 business days upon
receipt at the Arvada, Colorado metrology lab. You are responsible for
both in and out bound freight and insurance costs.
- Single weights - $65
- Two or more weights - $48 each
- Weight sets of 15 or more weights - $37 each
Please call us at 978-521-7095 if you presently have calibrations
weights that require recertification.
What does calibration of a laboratory weight entail?
Sartorius
mass comparators compare a weight to a known mass (a NIST calibrated
reference weight) and report the difference, to a very small value.
These mass comparators can ascertain and measure differences to
10, 1, and even 0.1 micrograms (one ten-millionth of a gram), multiple
weighings, averaged, can resolve the differences to even smaller
amounts.
Calibration technicians must wear appropriate static free clothing,
as well as gloves, hair nets and face masks, to reduce the possibility
of contamination (and changing the weight of the weights) from skin
oils, hairs, or airborne droplets. Calibration weights are
never touched directly by human hands.
What is the difference in tolerance between Sartorius Ultra Class
U, Class 1, Class 2 and other calibration specifications?

The
table above is a listing of the tolerances of various classes of
masses. The weight value can deviate above or below the nominal
value by the tolerance defined. To determine the tolerance
of a mass, look at the denomination or nominal value of the weight
and the appropriate class you need.
